Jessica and Kevin had a very nice symbolic ceremony at Cancun, the most beautiful moment of the wedding ceremony were the exchange of vows, it is one of the most beautiful vows I ever hear. After the ceremony finished they did the traditional “Jumping the Broom Ceremony”. Is a symbolic ceremony in which the bride and groom, either at the ceremony or at the reception, signify their entrance into a new life and their creation of a new family by symbolically “sweeping away” their former single lives, former problems, concerns, and jumping over the broom to enter upon a new adventure as wife and husband.
Jumping the broom is an African ritual, or tradition still being practiced in some parts of West Africa. It is important to know that “Jumping the Broom” is not associated with slavery
The straws of the broom represent the family, the handle represents the almighty, the ribbon represents the tie that binds the couple together.
This symbolic ceremony can also be performed at a renewing of vows or an anniversary.
